Wojciech Sroczyński - Czy kryzys rodziny?

The author undertakes an issue of threats to a family in a context of it’s – indicated by scientific literature – crisis. He asks, whether the changes we are observing are a prove of the crisis meant as disintegration, or even extinction of this form of life in civilized societies, or is it just an escalation of new types of threats, the family had to deal with since the very beginning of it’s existence? The author advances a thesis, that this crisis, just like the previous ones caused by social transformations on a global scale, influence on the role of the family and fulfilling it’s basic functions and they impinge on it’s model and structure, but they do not lead to it’s extinction. Among all the threats, relativity of moral standards seems to be the most dangerous one.

Mediation is a way of solving conflicts with a help from impartial mediators who accompany the two sides in the process of agreements. Family mediations are most often run by a couple of specialised mediators – a woman and a man. Their job is to make the communication easier, to define dispute topics, to assess needs and interests of the sides, and to help them find the agreement. In family affairs a mediator helps family members have a hard talk in a safe, orderly and peaceful way, so that it could achieve the purpose expected by both sides.

Solving conflicts, especially in family, is connected with high emotions because these are important matters. Mediators can help with solving these difficult situations as they are specialised in it. However, there is one condition – both sides really need to want to find a solution.

People in Poland, with no reason, relatively seldom use the help from professionals in family crisis situations. Mediation is becoming a common and popular form of solving family conflicts; it can help the sides find the solution in difficult family problems, which can be suitable for both sides. In Poland, there are a lot of mediation centers and organisations which associate professional mediators, among others, Stowarzyszenie Mediatorów Rodzinnych (Family Mediators Association). Centrum Mediacji Partners Polska is one of the centres.

Family ties is an example of society connections. As an analytical category, it is the subject of research. The time of crisis, social and economic changes is a good chance to do some research on this phenomenon. The outcome of the transformations in 1989 has a negative effect on subjective ties in the family because it takes social and psychological feeling of safety away from the family. Parents do their best to make a satisfactory living and they do not have an opportunity to strengthen their psychological links.

Despite hard living conditions, family members maintain family connections organizing family reunions. According to recent survey, meeting parents, grandchildren and adult children who live away has become a typical every day activity.

Popular culture, especially mass media, have a great influence on today’s family. Media create new models of family life. Consequently, families stop meeting regularly, talk less, do not spend enough time together. They spend more time watching TV or surfing the internet.

Many phenomena that we can observe in contemporary world endanger the family. One of the largest threat apart from divorces is migration. Earning migration should protect economic function of the family. However it is connected with longing, and loosening marital and parental ties. Loosening of thiese ties disturbs integral personal extension.

When a husband or a wife have to emigrate it could cause disturbance on marital tie evolution on its cognitive, behavioral and emotional aspect. Moreover this influence on every above mentioned aspect is different, and it was studied by profesor K. Wojaczek. He drew conclusions that there is a correlation between migration and behavioral aspect of the marital tie. Nevertheless, all three aspects  are connected and some change in one aspect cause change in another one.

Prison isolation is a problem that many of polish families have. The time when a person is being kept in jail is very difficult for both, the prisoner and his family. This document describes family situation in case of prison isolation. Author describes the specific role that family has while the reclamation and readaptation process. Important issue, what is the relation between prisoner and his family, the emotions between them is the subject that author putts most attention to. She also analyses the differences between treating man and woman while being kept in prison. Another very important issue that author also describes in this document is a situation of a child while the time when one of parents is being kept in jail.

A human being is an existence created to love. As a union of body and spirit, a human being changes its possibilities. A marriage is an institution where difference of genders becomes a union which is ready for unity. Connecting a woman with a man in love is based on family. Danger to love in marriage causes a reduction of feelings or sexuality. Feelings and sexuality accompany love but they aren’t its essence. Separating the human’s from particular life isn’t dignity good for marriage love.
